The Japanese word Kasane (重ね) refers to layers placed one upon another. That meaning is beautifully reflected in this cup, where deep charcoal tones rise into warm ochre and softly fade into a pale, creamy glaze.
The layered surface feels almost like a small landscape — earth, stone and light meeting naturally across the clay. Subtle transitions, textured details and the softly organic form give Kasane its quiet wabi-sabi character.
Made to be held in both hands, this handleless cup invites you to slow down and enjoy a simple coffee or tea moment with a little more intention.
Each Kasane cup is individually shaped, glazed and fired by hand. The glazes move and react naturally in the kiln, creating colours, textures and transitions that can never be recreated in exactly the same way.
